Zeballos
The 200 year old village of Zeballos is located north of Campbell River and Woss on Highway 19.
Hikers, cavers and wilderness campers will want to check out Little Zeballos, Lake Zeballos, and Iron
Mine. You will see a number of abandoned gold mines and many large caves, one large enough to land
a helicopter in the opening. These huge limestone formations hold many more cave parks known only to
locals. Visit the Zeballos museum which has a wealth of information, interesting artifacts, and displays.
Kayakers put in at Zeballos to explore the Zeballos and Esperanza Inlets or at Fair Harbour where a
campsite is located and from here, a boater can explore the clear waters of Tahsis and Amai inlets or
make the relatively short cruise to Kyuquot or the beautiful beaches of Rugged Point. If you're after trout
or steelhead, check out the Zeballos River. In the fall the river is packed with salmon returning to spawn.
A nature trail right in town wanders along the river. Wildlife, nature photographers, and artists will find
many perfect opportunities in this area. Take a forestry tour to learn about modern logging practices and
see how silviculture is used to ensure a sustainable future for this major resource.
To the west of Zeballos, Woss Lake Park, the Haihte Range holds the Island's largest glaciers, rimmed
with spires of clean rock. Rugged Mountain is the apex of this range and boasts a 600m (1950 feet)
southwest-face above the Nomash River.
The small craft harbour in Zeballos provides protected moorage, tackle shop and laundry facilities.
Fishing charters, marine supplies, kayak rentals and guide tours are available as well. Accommodation
includes hotels, cabins, RV sites and campgrounds.
