Qualicum Beach
Qualicum Beach is just a short drive north of Parksville and is now referred to as the Retirement Capital
of Canada. It is easy to understand the attraction with Qualicum's proximity to superb beaches, golf
courses, museums, art galleries and live theatre events.
The Historical Society has created a museum out of two old power houses - the Qualicum Beach Power
House built in 1929 and the MacIntosh Power House. Here you can see interesting glimpses into local
history, from pioneer life to Georgia Strait shipwrecks. Journey into the prehistoric past, at the museum,
which features fossils from all over British Columbia and the world in its paleontology exhibit. The Echo
Players of Qualicum Beach, who specialize in musicals and lighter fare, put on shows in both summer
and winter. The Old School House Gallery and Art Centre is a visual arts centre with two galleries and
eight studios for resident artists.
Enjoy golfing, fishing or shopping in the marvelous collection of tempting specialty shops along Carriage
Lane. Quaint tearooms, restaurants, and heritage buildings highlight the town's British heritage such as
the quaint Chilham Village Shopping centre. Experience a bygone era during the Dickens Festival held
each year mid-November to December 31st.
From June to September, the Farmers' Market features organic farm produce, baked goods, and raw

Lighthouse Country
Featuring the communities of Horne Lake, Qualicum Bay, Bowser and Deep Bay. Together, they provide
access to some of the area's most intriguing natural and recreational phenomena. Focus on pristine
wilderness, crystal clear lakes and ancient caves. This is the spot for watching wildlife, by land and by
sea ! Imagine salmon, trout and bass gliding silently through the water, ready to take the bait. Wait on
the dock for the commercial fishing boats to return with their catches.
Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park presents a wide variety of activities both above
and below ground. An example of the tours available is the Family Riverbend Cavern Tour where you
learn about the fascinating geology and history of these amazing caverns starting with a 25 minute hike
to the entrance along the Karst Trail. While exploring the larger and easier passages of Riverbend Cave,
visitors are treated to beautiful crystal formations and ancient fossils. Self guided and 3 to 5 hours tours
are also available.
Adjacent to Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park are Horne Lake and Spider Lake noted for excellent
canoeing, kayaking and swimming and an ideal family picnic destination. Motorized boats are not
permitted on Spider Lake. As well as water activities on Horne Lake, rock climbing and heli-tours of the
area are available.
At Buckley Bay take a 15-minute ferry trip to Denman and Hornby Islands. Bicycle rentals are available
to enjoy the miles of parks and beaches. Deep Bay's herring spawn and shrimp hatches attract the larger
Chinook salmon, some up to thirty pounds. With the proper license, visitors may dig for clams and
oysters at Deep Bay.
