The City of Duncan

Vancouver Island’s southern half contains some beautiful towns and cities in addition to the capital of Victoria. A forty-five minute drive north of the capital takes you to the lovely City of Duncan which is situated at the half way point between Victoria and Nanaimo. Getting there is half the fun as you take in the majestic ocean and mountain beauty from the heights of the Malahat hills on the Trans-Canada Highway.  When you arrive in Duncan you will have no problem finding great restaurants, historical sites and lots of shops to while away the hours.

The City of Duncan is a very progressive community that has successfully completed a major redevelopment of its Business and Commercial centres. The new City Square is part of this impressive revitalization effort. Festivals and community events can be enjoyed through most of the year and the sunny climate makes for a very enjoyable experience.
The Cowichan Museum and a large number of beautiful totems make for some very interesting viewing in this walk friendly community and for wine enthusiasts, the vineyards around Duncan feature some excellent varietals that thrive in this sunny marine climate.

The few blocks that make up downtown Duncan feature shops that cater to people looking for unique West Coast treasures from the First Nations people and other artisans who use local materials to create their works of art. The restaurant scene is an eclectic one with Deli’s, Chinese, Seafood, Brew pubs and Japanese cuisine served by the very friendly people of Duncan and parking is just one dollar.

There are over 200 businesses in Duncan to cater to your financial, commercial and other business needs. Some of these enterprises are located in recently renovated heritage buildings that give the visitor a feel for what Duncan was like at the turn of the last century.

Getting there is also a breeze. The drive from Victoria takes less than an hour and you also have the option of train service which allows you to soak in the breath taking beauty from the heights of the Malahat. Air service and ferry service to nearby communities such as Chemainus or Nanaimo is also an option. Once you arrive, outdoor activities such as golf, kayaking and hikes on the Trans-Canada trail are only minutes away.
